Beautiful Classics Riders Portraits

I happened upon this website while searching for some other photos and Stephan VanFleteren has some absolutely beautiful portraits and other photos of the classics and famous riders. You really should take a look.

Just stunning B+W photography and portraiture.

There are some nice shots but it is kinda crazy that we love a sport where guys seem to be comfortable with the fact that they resemble a POW when their shirt is off.

I've been a huge fan of Stephan's work since the first time I laid eyes on his iconic image of Merckx. The Dutch have an incredible style of photojournalism that stands heads above anything produced here in the states and Stephan's work is no exception. It's more artful and less about objectively communicating.

Stephan's portraits were inspiration for a series of portraits I shot at some local time trials. I really need to get back out there and make a few more.

'Pirated' this...the only thing in sharp focus is his eyes...speaks volumes. Hangs in Vecchio's.

That's the image I was talking about. I'm going to email Stephan about buying a signed print to add to my collection of cycling images.

Dave pal, they are are "artsy", I give you that, but somehow I have hard time seeing the "beautiful" part...I didn't see any female, unless I missed something in the lineup.

Oh btw, happy birthday! Hope you got lucky.

And these are the big, muscular classics riders, not the skinny climbers.

Outstanding images. Does anyone know if he uses medium or large format to produce these? The super selective DOF is pretty powerful.

. . . I know he also has a healthy respect for women. I also have a daughter and a healthy respect for women and took for what it was meant for--a joke.
