I have to say, the old 11.4 was awesome; the new bit-more-humor-letting-the-hair-down 11.4 is even awesomer. Good stuff!

I thought that the Forum came about shortly after Al Gore and Dave Thompson invented the internet...

Yes, they spun it off a bit before their demise.

I was a member of Kahuna's Calfee Forum long before I joined the Serotta Forum...mainly because I owned a Calfee and could not afford a Serotta.

I joined this place after I got an Ottrott in late 2006...

I got curious so did some searching on past posts.

http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=256

This was enlightening... and shows some insight into the transition to the Serotta sponsored forum (fragmented from Kahuna's BikeFanClub forum).

Stumbled on it while searching for info on quality ti road frames.

Had never seen an online forum before that. Got my Legend Ti from a member in 2002.
Remembering names like Kahuna, Bigmac, chunk666, etc. Ha ha ha, so long ago.

There was one guy among them, smarter than the rest, who realized that promoting their bison hunting from bikes on the walls of a cave was scarcely going to memorialize their achievements. So he set up a website and shared his cave drawings. Interest grew rapidly, but technology let them down in the end. Their bikes made from bison bones were ultimately supplanted by titanium bikes. The ti bikes were so much faster that their owners, newcomers from Southern California, were killing all the bison, and the Lascaux Neandertals gradually faded away. Of course, the Southern Californians tried to assimilate everything the Lascaux Neandertals had done -- that being the way of Southern Californians -- but the best they could come up with was some crazy who was obsessed with bikes and squirrels simultaneously. That encouraged the titanium bike builders to acquire the website and run it for several years. Finally, there was a renascence of bison bone frames (right after the bamboo and right before the laminated wood ones) and the titanium frame builders let the website go. It was taken over by a few people who longed for the Neandertal life again. And that's where we are today.
I felt compelled to make a humble pilgrimage to the origins of this place. This is why I put on my Paceline cap and dragged my wife to Lascaux to rub shoulders with our talented ancestors. And once there, one can see why it began this way. Great cycling in a wonderful climate, the kind of place where the cycle wheel of progress turns rapidly. Wife, on Serotta, in front of many Citroen SMs, with the new Lascaux in the background, in September. One final word: Go.

Actually this place, when it was a Serotta bannered board, was "across the hall".
That is, across from Neil Hassan's FrameForum which now is part of the past.
The phrase originated there, by me.
We've cited it several, or maybe many times before.

Everywhere is across the hall from somewhere.
