Whoa! Glad no internal injuries etc.

Possible rib fractures - this is more serious. Believe it or not, this can be criteria for acute inpatient admission.

The concern is that breathing becomes progressively more shallow because it's painful to have full diaphragmatic excursion, so you wind up slowly sinking into respiratory failure before you even realize what's happening. Intercostal rib blocks are used to ease the pain of breathing until you're safely on your own.

Ouch

I feel for you. Hope you did a concussion check. Sometimes the least painful injuries are the worst. Heal up quick and get back on the horse.

Oh man... Geoff, I'm really sorry to hear about the crash! That really sucks. I hope that you heal fast.

It sounds like it may be a bit before you're back on the bike, but let me know if you need to borrow a bike or wheelset until you get yours repaired.

Mike

Holy smokes, went down at over 35

Heal up quickly. If I went down like that I would see my chiropractor as soon as my other injuries allowed me to be adjusted.

I'm approaching week 5 after taking a spill on a 40% corkscrew turn downhill, with the result of 4 fractures in 3 ribs. Was pretty surprised at the pain levels.

Get well soon. Back in June I fractured my sternum in a slow speed crash, off the bike for two weeks, and another three weeks of discomfort. A LOT of pain but similar to broken ribs in the way you can't really do anything about it but wait for it to heal. Could have been a lot worse though. I am lucky to be (relatively) young and healthy which sped up the recovery a lot. Just be happy your okay and i'm sure you'll be back to normal soon enough.

I am sorry fire-pal! What a reminder that things can change in an instant. I remembered jmoore-pal posted about a group ride and you responded that you will be doing a 75-miler with another group. I got back not too long ago myself from a very nice 60-miler solo ride and just finished my post-ride yoga stretching, lying down on the bed, got on the forum on my touch pad and this is the first thing I read, bummer!

Heal well, take it easy.

Geoff, best wishes for a quick and full recovery. We're all a split second away from something similar when we go out on the bike... but I work hard to never think about that!

Your posts always are thoughtful and interesting. Maybe we'll get more of them from you during recovery time

Too bad but at least it wasn't what I feared when I saw it!
