Remember what a headset does. Hold the fork on and allow smooth left-right operation of the front wheel of about 10-15 degrees each side. Use on a prepped frame, grease well, OVH if needed, and it will last for years.

Agree with Ol' P, frame prep is ~99% (scientifically proven, OK maybe not) more important to function than the headset used (aesthetics and extreme conditions aside). Poor prep has made many hate a Chris King or killed it outright, while excellent prep (and installation) will make you forget if the headset you bought was $20 or $200.

I think that particular headset is re-branded by quite a few companies (IRD, etc ?) and the Tange name is solid.

I have a Tange Levin on one of my Merckx. Aside from it loosening up a bit when it sat for a prolonged period of time, it has worked fine. I think mine was $40 or so.

In an attempt to spend as little as possible on a recent build I found this (and another) thread mentioning these Tange Seiki Techno Glide headsets. At $20 shipped from Taiwan it was worth the potential risk.

All I can say is that I'm blown away with the quality of this headset and the aesthetics are very understated. It is easily of similar quality to any $50-$60 retail headset out there (Cane Creek 40) and superior to anything I've used in the < $45 range (FSA anything, Cane Creek 10).

Strongly recommended.

I have one on my FUSO and no problems after a few thousand miles, not even a tighten was required.

For an inexpensive but quality headset, the Velo-Orange headsets are hard to beat and have sealed bearings. I've used Tange Levin headsets and I think the VO ones are higher quality.

Every sealed cartridge headset VO offers is ≥ $48, more than twice as much the RDC82 and one still has to pay for shipping.

Any updates on how this headset worked out? Thinking of snagging a silver one to save myself a fistful of cash over CC 110 and CK headsets.
