There are holes in catalog dates. 1993 seems to be the "legend" era...

It does look like 1993 was the Legend era and 1994 was CRL era and 1995 was CSI. Although, I am sure there is more to it than that. My question though is what were the differences? Usually a new name denotes something new but not always. Were there changes in the model between the two is was it just a change on the top tube decal?

The newer Legends were titanium but I have heard the name was used earlier on steel bikes. I don't remember ever personally seeing a steel Legend. I owned a ti Legend and a steel CSi (the only kind).

If you read between the lines of the descriptions spanning +- 3 years, it seems like the same bike. One would think differences exist(tube specifics/lugs, dropouts, cable stop location/type, etc.)beyond the decal. Exactly what those are is part of the fun with Serotta.
I think I read certain sized frames received different "stock" tubes on some models. Like a 58+ of a lower cost TI bike may have had the fancier tapered tubes of the higher cost Legend Ti. There's also the custom element. You need to start with SN. Last edited by dustyrider; 08-29-2014 at 07:19 PM.

"You have a Serotta Legend CR, most likely a '93. The "Legend" series of Serottas began in 93 and had the Legend Ti (titanium), Legend CRL (a lightweight CR), Legend CR, Legend TG (tig-welded instead of lugged) and about 5 other ''Legend' models including mountain bikes and Tri bikes. It was basically a re-naming of their bikes to capitalize on Serottas fame as builders of Tour de France and the Coors Lite Race Team bikes. Colorado was Serottas name for their specially made swaged tubes, (the design still lives in Serottas today) so any bike that used these tubes had a Colorado name. Like I said, they named all their bikes starting in 93 "Legend" and the CR merely was the model in your case."

300 should denote 300th made as I remember. I also have a 62L CRL. It appears to be a 94 and the Legend CRL a 93. It sounds like the difference between the two years is negligible if anything at all. I love my CRL but have been looking for one that was smaller and fit better. The one I have is still the best riding bike I have had.

Pick up the "legend" and have the final in say in what differences really exist!
