Wheel build for my Hakkalugi
New wheel day for my 1997 Ibis Hakkalugi.
Old wheels were Hugi (now DT Swiss) hubs with Mavic Open rims - with an amazingly small 13mm internal width! That was the way to light wheels back in the day. The old wheels' sidewalls were shot after about 20,000 miles of racing and commuting. Time to build new wheels while the weather sucks! New wheels: -Light Bicycle AR35 carbon wheels, set up tubeless -DT Swiss competition spokes with brass Squorx nipples - I love building from the outside in! -Same old Hugi hubs, rebuild with new internals. Huge props to DT Swiss support who for free sent a bunch of seals, ratchets, etc. because 'we like to see our old parts stay on the road'. That's great support. -Koolstop pads, which were hard to find in a carbon compound but for pre-v brake post style cantilevers. Here are 2 pics of the build in my basement, and a final outdoor shot ready to roll. |

Sweet ride. Ibis fanboy here. Looks like that Lugi has the stainless chainstay? I have a steel Mojo.

Yes, that's a 1997 Hakkalugi with stainless steel chainstays...and a handjob. Originally built with 8 speed STI, and now converted to 10 speed STI. And now new wheels! |

I really like the silver hub, silver spokes, carbon rim combo on this bike. What a sweet custom job!

I love this, but may be slightly biased.

THAT is one cool bike!
Nice curve on the fork, too.

Lovely username.
Do you still own a Hakkalugi? Got any pics? |

It’s a cold-dead-hands bike (well, one hand because the other is on my Spanky).

Woohoo, more Hakkalugis!
Never seen a blue one. Is that a repaint? Also a small detail....I've never seen the hakkalugi name in that spot on the top tube. |

A ‘lugi and a Spanky in your cold dead hands? Lucky hands. So you’re only missing a Sonoma from that era. Drop-bar wise, that is.

Yeah, that's a rare and lust-worthy combo right there.

I’m gonna need another hand because I added a Slim Chance to the fleet. https://mamilmusings.com/a-slim-chance-at-success |
