Contador...bad ass tough guy

Though I question the logic of racing after such an injury sustained by him, I have to say his ride today evokes the visceral emotion of working through the pain.

Who are your favourite tough cyclists and their tough guy heroic moments?

And Lemond (as much as I like the guy) with diarrhea does not count.

Has to be Geraint Thomas riding most of the Tour with a broken pelvis.

Tyler Hamilton broke his collarbone in the 1st stage of the TDF
in 2003 ( I think) and finished the tour.
(it was awesome no matter what he was on IMO )

How about the dude that got pushed in a barbed wire fence last year by a team car and finished the stage? That was pretty bad ass!

Johnny Hoogerland, yep... he and JA Flecha got the Combativity Prize that day in 2011, both got sideswiped by the same car. Hoogerland held it together until he was on the podium...

Frank Vandenbroucke finished the world championships with 2 broken wrists. I know he was a known PED user and he probably had so much stuff in his body when he crashed he was able to finish. But, still bad ass.

A tragic figure on many levels.

What makes you think he was feeling any pain? They have technology that takes care of that...

This guy must have been one tough dude - broke his collar bone, put it back, then his arm and finished the Giro

Pascal Simon, 1983 TDF. From Bicycling:

Quote:
The Tour de France is nothing without fate and heroics. In 1983, Frenchman Pascal Simon demonstrated both. Riding on the strong Peugeot team, Simon grabbed the yellow jersey in the Pyrenees and with it more than a four and a half minute lead. But when he fell on the stage to Fleurance just after the Pyrenees, fracturing his shoulder blade, his chances of winning the Tour were shattered. With the yellow jersey on his back, however, he refused to drop out, trudging on against all odds. For the next five days the race appeared more like a funeral procession as challengers refused to attack the wounded yellow jersey, and Simon struggled simply to follow. Finally on the climb to the Chapelle Blanche in the Alpes, Simon unclipped and dropped out. But not before winning the hearts of his fans.
