Like the swallows yada, racing returns

This has the makings of an epic race, last year was great, and now the hybrids are really sorted. Plus, Felipe in LMP2, Pato and Colton doing battle in protos. And 24 hrs streaming on Peacock (yes, they're annoying but its coverage baby).

Don’t deprive yourself of the first 2 rounds of Mazda MX-5 Cup that took place this week. Mighty mites bump drafting on the high banks! Some of the best racing anywhere.

Best coverage, ymmv of course, is RS2 with John and Jeremy and Shea and the crew … I mute the TV crew.

I was amazed at the size of the crowd in the stands.
My last trip there, admittedly in the last century, I don’t believe there were 50 people in the stands at the drop of the green.

Record number of entries
Lots of manufacturers including some new ones
I would bet Ford’s new GT-3 Mustang had some draw power

All that lead to a record crowd

The racing has not disappointed over the first 3 hours

What's with the big fin up the middle in the back of some of the cars? Haven't seen that before.

The LMP2 cars have had that config for several years. Its the "lesser" prototype class but they have Felipe Massa in the 74 car.

It channels the air more evenly over the body and wing - basically a boundary to keep the air where it does the most good

The Mustangs got hit with a significant BOP right before the race. That's going to slow them down some.
