zanconato lugged steel cx

a couple months back, there was a PSA in the classifieds about a Zanconato being sold on Seattle Craigslist. awesome deal and amazing bike. even though I was flush with bikes and didn't need another cx bike, I wanted it immediately. put out a feeler for anyone to help facilitate, got tons of responses from folks offering up their help, even though it was just two days before xmas. a true testament to the awesomeness of this community. in the end though, the seller worked at a shop and was willing to ship. mainly because a forum member had said "tell him you know me, you'll be fine" and that opened the door. but also because he'd lived in the area and we had mutual friends. but I digress...

here is an awesome steel lugged Zanconato cyclocross bike. the story is that Mike built this one up for himself and also used it to showcase his fine work at the 2011 NAHBS. as soon as I saw that it was made for Mike, I was in. I own a Zanconato alu road bike that I bought directly from Mike last summer. it fits tremendously and it's a phenomenal bike, so I knew this would be too.

I'm not 100% sure what I'll do with this one yet. I mean, I have to race it at some point. but I also have two Ti cx bikes of (essentially) matching geometry. I don't need this bike. but it's awesome and I love it and it rides tremendously (though it's the off-season for cx, so I've yet to rip it around a course). it's VERY close geo-wise to my other cx bikes, but with a much lower bottom bracket. so I'm anxious to see how that handles, and I'm open to the idea of using it for gravel as well, for that reason.

build is half as-purchased with frame (mostly the groupset), 1/4 pulled from parts bins and 1/4 purchased to suit. shown with aluminum wheels and gravel tires.

setup details:
- Zanconato lugged steel cyclocross frame and fork
- Chris King black sotto voce headset
- Thomson Masterpiece 27.2 seatpost
- Thomson X4 100mm stem
- Zipp Service Course SSR (super short reach) bars 42cm
- Zipp Service Course bar tape
- Sram Red 10 speed shifters and rear derailleur
- Sram Force 22 yaw front derailleur
- Shimano DuraAce 7900 crankset
- Shimano bottom bracket (threaded BB! yeah!)
- Thorne 44t outer chainring w/FSA 38t inner ring
- Sram 1070 11-28 cassette (on this wheelset at least)
- Avid Shorty Ultimate cantis
- Paul Funky Monkey cable hanger
- Fizik Arione saddle
- Time ATAC XC8 pedals
- KMC chain
- Jagwire sealed elite cables and housing
- Pacenti SL23's laced to Chris King R45's with CX-rays (one wheel option, there are more)
