Merckx Build "dilemma"

I have an inbound frame (Thanks Henry) I'm excited to build but need to do so with what is on hand. My original plan was to find a Motorola frame and build it with a DA 8s group I put together for a while, as semi-period correct. The new to me frame isnt motorola colors and sti came a touch later than the colorway so seems non period correct to still use the 8s DA... not that it is the ultimate goal to stay period correct at this point.

If I go non-period my choices expand to silver 10s record w/carbon shifters, a Daytona 10s group, or some mixture of Campy and shimano down tube shifters.
Wheels will be decided after the group but have either Record or 7403 hubs onto Archetype, OP, or Nemesis rims.

What would you choose from those choices? Here is a teaser pic of the frame.

I'll sell you a complete 7 spd DA 7400 group w tubular wheels (freewheel - 126mm) on the cheap if that'd work right. It's all in gorgeous shape..

That's 7-11 colors. Way better than Motorola.

Yep. Make is a later group with the UT cranks and carbon derailleur cages. Use the silver calipers as pictured.

7-11 EM is nicer score than the Motorola version..i would consider 7400 sti period correct, remember Steve Bauer was running the sti prototypes on his 7-11 bikes if I recall correctly.
but if your going to be using the bike day in day out I'd go with more the modern stuff.it just works better
isn't your rim choices apples and oranges? you running tubulars or clinchers?

Unfortunately used up my budget on the frame, but I have the parts to pick from at the moment. It did look great with the silver Campy, and I can mix/match my parts to do similarly. You'd get me in trouble if you convinced buy the group and wheels.

Yep rim choice can go either way, I have one bike with clincher and one with tubulars, this one is on the fence. Thanks for the info on the 8s sti. It will be a fair weather bike, not just for looking. May may go with mostly-alloy 10s. I've been on 10s campy since 04' but previously had 8s shimano and have both groups on hand. I'll probably do a mock build with both and see which speaks out more but never hurts to get other opinions.

i personally have no interest in reenactment bikes. i say build it with whatever will make you want to actually ride it the most. the frame is the frame and it speaks for itself, IMO. we can all appreciate the beauty and value of the frame by itself and not worry about what's hung on it.

i would say it's better to see it out in the wild being ridden with good modernish components > leaning against the wall with period correct stuff!

IMO, of course, great looking frame!
