It was raining ash this morning in Marin and you could barely see Mt Tam from the fires 30-40 miles away. Our Nanny's brother-inl-laws sister lost their home. If you live near you can volunteer to help out at one of the evacuation centers by following this link:

Scrolling through these pictures are pretty intense.

My parents live just south of Mark West Springs Rd

But I am far enough away that all I can give is good wishes. I fear the school that hosts the Tour de Fuzz is smoke and ashes.

Oh man. I just went to the Cal Fire website. I didn't know how active the fire scene still was down there. We've had enough rain and cooler weather in Oregon to help control the situation.

Best thoughts to everyone affected by the fires. I hope there's no more loss of life.

My mother-in-law was evacuated from her home @ 1AM by my sister-in-law (who lives in an area of Santa Rosa not threatened by the fire). Grabbed her purse, cat, and a change of clothes. Nothing but ashes left.

Wife's long time friend in the Coffey Park neighborhood lost her home, too.

Saw a line of fire trucks rolling up 101 as I drove to work on the Peninsula this morning, and was texting a friend all day as she evacuated work and her apartment. Crazy stuff going on up there. Hope everyone is staying safe.

We had a large fire start up in the Anaheim Hills area this morning, already grown to 5,000 acres with multiple structures burned. It's near some densely packed neighborhoods and we've been having lots of wind, so it's likely that number will grow. Hope everyone is staying safe out there!

Thanks eltejano. She and other family members are alright. She's numb with disbelief. Wife has just arrived there.
She will stay a couple of days, then bring mom home to live with us.
Just unbelievable.

It's shocking to see the photos from N. Cal. So sorry to hear that about your mother-in-law, retrofit.

I'm in North OC, about 8-10 miles from the Anaheim Hills fires. No one I know is directly affected, though some of the local hiking and mtb trail areas have clearly burnt.

Have never seen this type of devastation on a flat tract in California. Still have clear memories of the Oakland Hills Fire and the smaller Altadena Fire in the early 90s (lived near both areas). Alarming

Sadly I think it's probably gone.

My brother lives in Noth Tustin and has things packed in case he has to leave. My mother is close by and has only hours or days to live (ovarian cancer). She had to be evacuated last night to a hospice in Newport. I just got back Sunday from a visit with them and saw how bone-dry everything was.
