Moots Psychlo-X / 650B
Anyone know if the previous generation Moots Psychlo-X can be run as a 650B setup? I'm referring to the disc brake version, 6.1 BB drop, 135 rear spacing, 42.3 chainstay.
Normally this frame accomodates up to a ~35 x 700 tire, I think. Thanks. |

Reviving this old one. Curious if anyone has done this or knows it works? Don't see why not. Enough BB height to start I would guess.

Thanks OP. I have reached out to them. Kayla and group have been very helpful in the past. Gotta love great bikes and great customer service.

I tried it once with 650b x 38mm tires. Lateral clearance between rubber and chainstays was tight... 4mm on either side of the tires (no knobs). Admittedly this PX had 130mm spacing (not 135mm) but as the area of tightness is closer to the BB (where the chainstays "begin") than to the rear dropouts, I don't see how the chainstays would angle out much further even on a model with 135mm rear dropout spacing; unless the chainstays are already spread out more where they grow out of the BB.
This is is just one data-point. Would love to hear what you you find out from Moots. |

Moots claims they never tried since it is designed as a pure cross racing bike to fit 700x33. They did point me to another guy at Moots that ran 650 on his Routt RSL but that frame is already designed to handle wider tires. I'm going to look for a set of not-too-wide 650 tires and experiment when the frame comes in... I will report back.

Any follow up on this old dead post?

I have an ancient/first-gen Psychlo-X YBB disc (130mm spacing, QRs, discs (mechanical routing) and canti studs—yes, that ancient), and I am able to fit 650B x 38mm tires, but not 42mm tires. So clearance is pretty tight but rideable. I would think that if my frame can accommodate those tires, more recent Psychlo-X frames should be able to, too. However, as ipsy notes, it’s a data set of one (well, now two).

I have a Hampsten Mud Pig/Moots Psychlo and the BB chain stay location is tight. 700x40 Kenda Happy Mediums wouldn’t fit, had to stay with 30-33mm tires. Don’t know how far you will get with 650B.
