Replace canti fork with disc?
Has anyone switched from canti front brakes to disc? I don't know if this is a stupid idea, but I came across a Litespeed Appalachian frame on eBay, and since it didn't have a fork I wondered about this possibility and the risk/benefit.
On a related point, what about not only making the disc-for-canti swap, but also carbon for steel? There's an Indy Fab Ti Crown Jewel CX in my size (full build) with a steel canti fork. So…anyone made either or both of these switches? Bad idea? In the IF case, do you think switching to a carbon fork would change the ride quality in a negative way? Thanks for any thoughts, especially those based on experience. |

This used to be a pretty common among MTBers. The "mullet" setup.
I would not swap a steel IF fork for anything. They are incredibly light and lively. I actually have an IF fork on my Serotta CX.

as long as the a-c is reasonably close, i don't think it's a big deal. been done before.
fwiw, other than the obvious brake mismatch i would think the bigger nuisance (expense) would be having to buy mismatched wheels. but if you have em, use em. |

I would say its no problem to do, but as someone else said, the IF fork is pretty awesome.
I am a disc type of guy, but if I found a ti IF with Cantis, I would just enjoy it as is. Buy some Minimotos and I am sure theyd work as well as BB7s (which I use on my commuter) |

I did the mullet on an ahearne frame. I used a chrome tange disc fork (with the mid blade eyelets for a rack).
I still have the fork and it's for sale. |
