OT: RIP Roger Corman

Maker on tons of schlock movies that cost little but made lots of money. Also instrumental in the careers of many of Hollywood's biggies such as: James Cameron, Francis Ford Coppola, Jack Nicholson etc.

Roger Corman, low-budget filmmaker who launched many careers, dies at 98

Thanks for the notice. What a career. I recall enjoying his w t f interview—I may need to listen to it again.

He produced a lot of variable stuff (not surprisingly, with nearly 500 films and most on very low budgets) but was capable of making good movies when he had a decent script. One lesser known is The Intruder with William Shatner: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055019/.

He also helped Peter Bogdanovich and Ron Howard start their directing careers.

What a career Rogen Corman had giving opportunities to so many future big-named directors and actors. It's a testament to his vision and ability to see potential in unknown talents. By keeping budgets low on schlocky films, he ironically helped launch whole careers. Hollywood has truly lost a trailblazer who played an underrecognized role in shaping the industry for decades to come.

Yes. An important training ground for future great directors. I fear that is not possible today.
