Polished Silver Hubs

I just got an e-mail from Rivendell with a photo of new hubs they will offer as part of their "Silver" brand. No details yet but they look beautiful.

For those of us not on the email list, can you post the photo? Also, is the rear hub for cassette or freewheels? Would be nice if they made it compatible for 11 speed that can be trickle down to 7 or 8. But that might be asking too much....

Good Luck!

From the Rivendell email:

"Silver Hubs:
Ten years or so since our last product release, we're now adding hubs to our Silver group. The Silver brakes and shifters are now ubiquitous, and we hope our new hubs and crank will follow suit. More on the hubs coming soon, including an early-adopter discount. Stay tuned."

Sorry to thread-jack but I had to mention the initial edition of the old Velomax Orion hubs, which, in my opinion, were the most beautiful polished hubs ever made.

I love polished hubs.

Those Rivendell hubs look clearcoated. I love sitting around polishing bike parts myself. Looks 10x better. My personal favorites:

Hmmm, those look like all the other Taiwan generic hubs.

Some riv spec WI hubs would have been awesome.

First edition WI hubs, (8sp FW) are my favs, along with Camapgnolo Reçord nine, and ten of course.. The early White rears looked like Sturmey shells, but still gorgeous.

Polished Silver Hubs

A cassette hub designed for a 7-speed cassette--no spacers required--would make a lot of sense for use with rivs friction shifters. You'd get less dish, and imho friction shifting gets fussy after 8-speed or so.

I keep telling myself I'm going to buy a set of those WI reissue hubs, lace them to hard ano tb14s, and toss some silver Paul skewers on them. Maybe someday...

I was about to say this, I mean they look fine and wonder how different they will be to bike hub store 32h silver hub.

I agree with the comments above - if they have a configuration that meets your drivetrain specs get some WI hubs. That's what I've been doing lately.

(Although I also have some Alchemy hubs, which are pretty nifty too.)

Good luck finding them. There is a NOS set of original Speed Racers on ebay. I ran them on a Serotta with blue Open Pro rims in the late 90's, probably the best hubs I ever had. Sound cool, too. Those Rivendell's look like a Chinese hub.

Or just get a 11s hub and put some spacers on it, then the 7s cogset. Yes, the RH flange is getting close to centerline but sturdy wheels can and are being made with 11s freehubs. Velocity hubs..
