Sounds like a shop near me. The mechanic told me that my colnago frame wasn't worth building up because it had an obsolete Italian bottom bracket. This conversation was taking place as he was refurbishing an old English 3spd bike.
I told him Italian threaded bikes and bottom brackets were still avalible and in current production and he responded like I didn't know what I was talking about. |

This is a serious issue, so I am going to take the matter into my own hands. Tomorrow, at Stafford Springs, if you show up at the line with a carbon frame and you are not a pro, I'm going to DQ you right there. We cannot afford to take chances with people's lives.

"Carbon fiber parts should be considered disposable or consumable, like a Bic lighter!"
I'll let my wife know that my bike is disposable and therefore I'll need a new one at least once a year. |

The internet said so, so it has to be true!

Funny thing is, I found this link while googling "why do I hate carbon fiber bike frames?"

Everything breaks. Get over it. Yes, some carbon components and frames are too light for use by heavy riders. Know what fits the use it is intended for.

Look at the photo with the plastic reflector that went right through the Trek chain stay. The carbon fiber chain stay was was perforated but the reflector looks perfectly intact! They should start making frames out of bike reflector material.

That is a bit overwrought, to be sure. He's pretty much correct about repairs to damaged carbon frames, though: sticking with Calfee or the original mfg for repairs is a pretty sound strategy.

Seems he has also forgotten how to be successful in the bike biz.

He's a new product in the biz, customer repellant
I couldn't imagine having the misfortune of being approved to purchase a replacement spoke from the guy. Dealing with him seems like a joy. Life is too short and I'm too busy to jump through this guys hoops |
