Campagnolo 12 and SRAM AXS compatibility

None of the cassette brands can fit on a free hub body that's made to fit a different brand of cassette. If the hub allows, free hub bodies can be changed out to match the cassette.

I rode my campy chorus 12 cassette with an axs chain and drive train over two years ago. I also used the sram axs cassette with my chorus 12 drivetrain, by installing an xdr free hub body. Both combinations worked.

Campy wheels can be used with sram axs cassettes if an xdr free hub is installed, or an Ultegra 12 cassette with a shimano free hub body. I still have two xdr free hub bodies for campy hubs. I sold the zonda wheels and both buyers wanted the original campy free hubs.

Sram cassettes don't use a lock ring at all. They screw onto the xdr free hub body.

The 12-speed Campagnolo cassettes installed on a Chris King R45 hub with a Campagnolo freehub. "They" say that 12-speed Campagnolo cassettes aren't compatible with the (now discontinued) Campy freehub, but that's not always the case.

It appears that all 12-speed stuff works well together. I just got my hands on some of the new 12-speed Dura Ace and Ultegra parts, and will mix-and-match rear wheels to see what works.

All my 12sp campy bikes have been on SRAM XG-1295 cassettes for a couple of years already. No problems to report so far, pretty smooth and reliable

Installed this SRAM Force flat top 12 spd chain on my Bishop with 11,502 miles on the SR drivetrain.

Shifts are flawless. Solid, quiet, quick, etc etc. The old KMC chain was worn, but now, this thing shifts like it was brand new.

I'm sold.

Probably not too much surprise, but I run cn-m9100 12sp chain on my 12s record in attempt to have it run quieter (not 100% sure yet). Shifting is on point. Also run same chain on my 11sp di2 and that makes it near silent.

I'm just happy that the 12s stuff plays well with each other like we had with the bounty of swapping 11s stuff wherever we liked.

In my experience, I do think on the 12sp record group, the Shimano chain is less rattly sounding. The bike has always been sort of loud, even after cleaning and waxing on the record chain. No scientific measurements unfortunately.

Before I attempted that, I did try a new 12sp record chain on the 11sp di2 group just to see if 12sp chains was better overall, but it was definitely louder than even the used stock 11sp chain.

Off the bike, the record chain does feel "looser" in terms of how the chain is put together, I own 2 of each chain so I don't think its any build quality issue.

I haven't tried AXS chain yet, not planning to since I'm kind of sold on Shimano's chain at the moment--efficiency and potentially noise level.

Cyclingtips also had a podcast about that article, and one of my biggest takeaways was that the SRAM 12s chains lasted a LONG TIME, but they would wear out chainrings and cassettes more rapidly.

I would rather replace chains instead of chainrings and cassettes.

So interesting. Glad to see these parts overlap now. I would imagine the tolerances on the 12sp are more universal than 10/11sp.
