Camag 12 Speed Crank/chain on otherwise 10 Speed?

Is anyone using a Campag 12 speed crankset and chain on an otherwise 10 speed drive train? It seems that 12 speed Chorus cranks are easier to find and cheaper than new 11 speed cranksets that I currently use with 10 speed chains/drivetrains.

Yes, the crankset will work fine. I would stick to a 10 or 11 speed chain though, no need to go to a 12-sp chain on a 10 speed drivetrain.

I have lots of experience with the Chorus 12 crank, which has nice low 48/32 gearing on a variety of 9, 10 and 11 speed drivetrains. It works well with all of them.

Thanks Angry! As an aside, what length are you using? I'm considering trying 165s.

What length do you normally use? I’m trying to find 165 as well and trying to dump my 172.5 records.

It'll work fine..match the chain speed to the cogset, not the crank. 'Might' get some chain to big ring 'tickling' when in smaller cogs and small ring but really shouldn't be there anyway.

165 Campy is pretty tricky to find. I got a group with a 165 crank from Velomine. I just checked and he is listing all models of Campy 165 cranks as out of stock when bought separately, but you may have luck buying a groupset - for the Chorus rim brake group, 165mm is listed as an option.

Campy is just smaller scale, and I have a feeling that the majority of Campy riders may not be inclined to hop on the shorter cranks bandwagon.
