Life can be hard--a sad Craigslist ad.

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac...730039364.html

Got married, wife got pregnant, turns out it's not mine and she is leaving me. Want to buy a cargo bike from a shattered man at a steep discount? I need help paying lawyers bills and to cover the rent on my (new! exciting!) studio apartment. Just bought this at a local bike shop for $3900. I am a ruined man. Please somebody buy this reminder of the happy life I thought was mine before I burn it with all my personal affects and reminders of my now ruined life, drive to Vegas, and drown in drink.

Comes with rain tent. Headlights, tail light. Shimano Inter 7 7-speed rear hub. Double roller brakes up front. 200lbs+ load capacity up front. Four kid harnesses and two bolted-in benches.

This was going to be my party wagon. This was going to deliver us unto the co-op preschool we'd picked out. This was going to shuttle us to the farmers market and back. On dates and picnics. Oh god why did that cheating bitch have to humiliate me like this?!

Available in the evenings if you want to test ride. Bring a truck or make arrangements to carry this huge bike back and when it comes to payment I have a smart phone with Square on it - but cash is preferred. We can meet at my place or a local cafe in Highland Park.

Feel sorry for the guy. Not sure how realistic his plans were for that cycle?

Not to be a total d!ck and kick a man when he's down, but $3900 reduced to $2500 isn't that much of a markdown for a used bike, even for one he "just bought."

This reads a little too flip and funny to be real, and there's no shortage of creative writing in LA. Perhaps he's hoping sympathy will result in a higher sale price.

I wondered about that also.

F______ b____.

My best friend's wife of 10 years... whom he just bought their first house with, first nice car, and first kid 2 years ago, decided about a year ago she needed a little dingle on the side. He was my last still-married friend.

I'm still married, but my wife is special. No really.

This brings up an interesting question:

Most of the time is a divorce more the fault of the guy or the gal?

Granted, most of the time you can blame both sides a bit, but typically, is one side more often "at fault" than the other? Or is it 50:50?

Anecdotally I've concluded that many times it can be the guy's fault for not trying hard enough to make things work, but most of my work buddies are still married, so I don't have a lot of data on this.

This guy doesn't realize it, but he totally dodged a bullet! He should thank his lucky stars. And, perhaps next time he is stumbling towards fatherhood, he will invest in a $50 craigslist bike trailer instead. Mine held up well for a few years, before I flipped it over while giving my kids a wild ride to the market.

Even if I was interested, I couldn't ride with his emotional burden that is now embedded in that bike.

Maybe he can go car-less, using his car to pay bills.

Sad story . . .

. . . but my spider sense is tingling on the veracity. Sorry to be such a cynic, but in the age of the Internet I take ANY story like this with a gigantic (read: size of an Chevy suburban) grain of salt . . .

Depends on who you ask? Nowadays, at least in most places, a court doesn't need to say. Might be interesting to see what a forum full of cyclists (80 percent guys? 90 percent?) says, but, well . . .
