20” wheel question

Anyone built up a 20” (i.e. ISO 451) wheel - think sizing for a Bike Friday Pocket Rocket - with a XDR driver? Or have a good online source for one or a wheelset (rim brake, BTW).

Thinking of converting my trusty BF to eTap 1x12 now that eTap has trickled down from the “Red” level - that would make for quite a nifty travel/folder.

If that is indeed the case, any suggestions on gearing choices given the smaller wheels?

Thanks

Have you seen this one by Firefly? What a beauty.

I've got a 20" rear wheel on my cargo bike with a 2.15" tire and am not sure you could fit anything larger than 34t cassette in the rear unless you go with the Microshift Advent Super Short (38t). Derailleur would hit the ground. I assume most 1x12 stuff is going to have a huge cassette and would be too big.

Also don't forget you need a larger chainring for such a small rear wheel.

That is pretty slick, however I would be afraid to ever ask what it costs.

20” ideas

The Firefly is pretty amazing (aspirational?). In any case, looking to figure out what to do with my ~ 20 year old BF. I began going down the Microshift rabbit hole too - those smaller profile rear derailleurs (purpose built I think for folding style commuter bikes?) might be the ticket for 1x9 or 10…need to see if I can get that cassette on the existing Capreo hub if I want to use it (or see if there is a 20” XDR solution).

Not exactly the same deal but I put Microshift Advent Super Short (1x9 and 11-38) on my kids 20" (406) fat tire (2.8") MTB. It works great and was easy to install. Velo-orange had a good writeup on this groupset:

I've been out of the 20" wheel world for almost 20 years. I had 20" wheels both on recumbents and Bike Fridays. At the time, the 451 size had narrower tires available and I had one of my BFs built with 451 wheels and the other with 406. I'd look carefully at which size has the better tire availability today.
