@joostfx - what chainrings and cassette are you running? It looks like a quite broad range.

50/34 and an 11/36. The cassette is a Sram 1170. And is totally compatible with a midlength Shimano 6800 RD. The photo was taken on Indian Springs fire road where there is a series of short 20% technical climbs. Two years ago I broke my wrist climbing up and falling backwards on one of those climbs. The 34x36 sure makes life easier in those kinds of situations.

Wow. Every time I get that falling backwards sensation while climbing I think 'nah, people can't fall backwards climbing it's just in my head'. Sounds like a nasty accident and good to keep in mind.

Sounds ideal. I'm running 46/36 with an Ultegra 6800 long cage RD and 11/36 SRAM 1170. I often wish I had that 34 in the front on some of the really steep (~20%) stuff in the East Bay of the SF Bay Area. It may be time to put a compact on there and get another chain...

Thanks!

Righteous build! Perfect in every way as far as I am concerned.

I hear you. I think the East Bay has steeper climbs than Marin.

35mm. Those are 32mm tires and plenty of space left.

Built this frame for a friend. It clears 700x39 and weighs 18lbs without pedals! Lugged construction with Columbus Spirit tubes, Long Shen slopping lugs, internal cable and Paragon Flat Mount dropouts. His dad painted it in his body shop and the color is SICK!!!! It's that paint that looks purple from the side and blue/green from straight on.
