Those are beautiful bikes. I really love that Signal. I’m in the Bay Area as well. I’ll keep an eye out too. Do thieves often repaint bikes?

Those will stick out like a sore thumb on the 2nd hand market. I’ll keep my eye open.

For these unique bikes, do they usually end up in CL or shipped overseas? I worry that the thieves knew exactly what they are stealing and not planning for a quick sale.

This really sucks. Hope insurance can help. But even so it still doesn't make up for the lost bikes as they are not easily replaceable.

This is terrible. I would setup a saved search on eBay for these bikes. I don't know if there is a way to create some sort of watch on CL or Facebook marketplace.

That does stink.

It seems NorCal is seeing a lot of high end bicycle theft lately.

Be careful guys!

Stolen bikes -- Please help

Sorry to hear and hope there is insurance to cover some of it. Happening all over the DC area too lately. Lock your doors and don’t leave anything outside..

whenever someone moves into my complex and i see they have bicycles i tell them to take their bikes inside. none of them listen and they all leave them on the balcony/patio outside. within a couple months every single one is stolen. this is in a nice quiet suburban garden apartment complex.

i have had bikes stolen from every single place i've lived if they were left outside. left several grocery getters outside, locked up. every single one has had parts stripped from it. someone took a campy skewer from me and replaced it with a trash skewer. really! take them inside the house. half of my bikes live in my bedroom. the key is finding a wife before this behavior begins so it's normalized.

Unfortunately it seems like most of these fall into two categories: stolen specifically for a buyer (so it never hits the 2nd hand market) or stolen and sold on the street for a quick buck.

I have no idea if the two are actually related, but since the Santa Monica/LA riots, I've seen numerous people who appear to be homeless riding brand new, relatively nice bikes I'd expect to see in a LBS (Trek, Fuji, Spec). None of them were carbon wheeled race machines, but were more entry-mid level and looked like they just rode them from the store. I know several LBS's in the area were hit during the looting so I'm guessing that's the link. Sucks, but hopefully their insurance covered it all.

Oh jeeze those are nice ones. I'll keep an eye out. I've had a kids' trailer and my townie stolen from my place. My insurance has a high deductible so I had to eat that one. Hopefully your insurance will help cover some of it.

Working on my renewal now

Current carrier wants $1800+ premium to list bikes by replacement value

Not sure how to value a Meivici for replacement but I also know I don’t want it depreciated to almost nothing.

There is a very high number of criminals on the streets here now due to the Covid19 catch-and-release program. It'll take a while for equillibrium to be restored (if it ever gets restored).

Luckily I haven't heard of any bike thefts locally, but a lot of minor street crime ranging from vandalism to drugs/drunks and such are being reported every day.

We had been seeing weekly robberies of Home Depots, drug stores and the like until about 10 weeks ago. That was when one of Sacramento's criminals came up this way and ended up shot dead by an elderly person in defense of their home while they were fleeing the police. Apparently word of this got around the incarceration circuit because 11 weeks have gone by now with no more robberies.

Are bikes now in the same category as jewelry and furs? Have to be listed separately?

i used lemonade to cover a firefly and a speedvagen, etap'd, lightweights, enve, the whole works.

i think i pay maybe $300 a year for replacement value on both together.

$1800 seems absurd unless you have 10 bikes
