Max Tire Width on Mavic Open Pro
Can you ride 700x30 or 32 on Mavic Open Pros? Thanks, PBWrench

Me too, I have been running 35mm Pasela’s on OP rims for 20 years. Kenda 40mm Happy Mediums work great also.

People used to run 29 x 2.1" tires on Open Pros in the early days of 29ers with no issues. 700x32 is absolutely no issue despite the trendy wide rims available today.

Can certainly be done but it's not ideal. I've found that I have to increase the pressure so much that the comfort normally gained with larger tires was lost. I stop at 28mm now. If your budget allows, and you want to run a wider tire, I'd look for some slightly wider rims.

Limiting Open Pro rims to 28mm wide tires makes no sense to me. I have a set of Mavic Sup Reflex, the model before Open Pro, with interior width of 13mm. I have had 35mm Continental Contact clinchers on them for quite a while and a lot of miles. I use the set up for mixed surface rides. They are both 32 spokes and just fine at the psi I usually use. I have done the same with Open Pro rims.

You definitely can, but the tire is going to be more bulbous than using a rim with a wider inner diameter. I used to run up to a 35 on them, but definitely prefer the profile of a wider tire on a wider inner diameter rim these days.

I run 32mm gk and fenders in the winter and 38mm paselas in the summer on open pros for my commuter bike. Agree with others -- it's not ideal but works fine if you run slightly higher psi. At some point I'd like to get these relaced with wider rims.

People used to ride 2” wide tires in rims that narrow, then they rode in the mountains and did jumps and stuff. Some people still do.

Currently running RH Steilacoom (38 mm labeled, closer to 35/6 actual) on Open Pros at 40-50 psi. No prob. Also ran 28, 30, 32 mm tires from RH, Grand Bois, Panaracer, and “38” GK SK - none posed any issues. With tubes, of course. Run those rims, use the time saved to get more sleep, and feel free to lace up wider ones when the brake tracks wear down. 👻

I'm running GP5000 700x32 on OPs and am going to try a wider rim so that the tire plumps up some more (it's 30mm at 55-60 psi on the OP.) Not a required or urgent need just an experiment.
