Mtb shoe recommendation???

Looking for a decent pair of all mountain shoes, clip in. Have a set of bony vaypor XC shoes that have been great for gravel grinding, but too dang stiff for my mtn bike.

Something all mountain, clueless compatible.

What do people use and like?

Thanks in advance.

I'm a fan of Lake shoes. Their MX 175 is a great inexpensive shoe (you can often find it on line for around $110-120), with a leather upper and softer rubber soles. Make for great shoes when you need to hike-a-bike. Really grippy. Likewise, the MX 237s are also really nice and are a bit lighter. But they also have a stiff carbon sole, and the soft rubber sole is thinner than the MX 175's, and the MX 237's don't last as long as the 175's.

What sucks about Lakes is their customer service. Magura USA recently took over distribution in the US, and they've gotten better. But the Lake folks in the Netherlands are not good at all...

I picked up a pair of Sidi Epic's last week, http://www.sidi.com/en/products/cycl...tdoor/mtb-epic on sale at Jenson USA http://www.jensonusa.com/Shoes-Footw...Shoes?cs=Black for $89.00.

The fit is perfect for my foot and I wanted something I could walk in comfortably as well as ride for adventure days. I have not field tested them yet however they are well put together and between last years orange/black Giro Terraduro which has also been on sale for close to the same cost, the Epic's appealed more to me in the versatility department.

When I am out in the woods the simplicity, repair-ability and reliance on laces rather than buckles or Boas equals dependability for my cycling needs.

The Terraduros have also had some sole adherence issues on the original release in the past. The sole on the Epics is equally lugged almost perfect for variable terrain with no record of past issues.

The Epic being a "green" product also reached out to my ethic awareness.

Shimano makes a good shoe. I've got one of the am/enduro models and they're pretty nice.

Thanks all. Those SIDIs intrigue me, have to check those out. Also been looking at the shimano AM9, glad to hear a positive thought in their AM offerings

Giro Terraduros have been amazing for me. They are holding up quite well and they are very walkable too.

I ride Specialized shoes, but my next pair will be Giro Terraduros - they look very well thought out.

I have Specialized and Gaerne mtn shoes (that I wear for all my riding). Been very happy with both. I have one pair of Specialized that's 10 years old and just won't die!

The Sidi Spider SRS are quite comfortable and aren't ridiculously stiff. Good for some hike n bike or cross too... I just picked up the Lake MX331 Cross model and they are very supple and some nice features. Haven't got out on the bike with them yet.

+1, i have these & love them for their simple looks & walkability. Not too expensive at $180 also................

edit: just found em for $125 at CC http://www.competitivecyclist.com/giro-terraduro-shoe?skid=GIR003K-GLORED-S39&CMP_SKU=GIR003K&MER=0406&CMP_ID=PLA_GOc014&mv_ pc=r101&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=PLA&CSPID=091 4&mr:trackingCode=72D946C2-1595-E311-98C5-001B21BCB944&mr:referralID=NA&mr:device=c&mr:adTyp e=plaonline&mr:ad=81822462421&mr:keyword=&mr:match =&mr:tid=pla-120324506221&mrloc=9031951&mr:iloc=&mr:store=&mr :filter=120324506221&gclid=CIuCxZWB7dACFRWVfgod8ZE OPw&gclsrc=aw.ds

I love my Lake road shoes, fit is just perfect... for MTB, I have a pair of Diadora that are really nice...

I like Sidi, but I always have to be careful on width in Sidi for me... the Giros are interesting, any comments on width in the toe box?

Unless you can pick up a used pair in your needed size, good luck finding the Sidi Spider SRS anywhere, no longer made.

Yea but someone had a good stash recently. Have to look it up. I picked up a new pair.

If you're looking for Sidi, road or mtb, checks out xxcycle.com. In Italy but reasonable shipping and quick and their prices are great.
