Kids bike question
OK guys... kids are getting older and now at least I'm sure i might be able to take them with me w/o having them to stop each 30 second to look at the flowers around the road... so now Im kind'a looking what I can find....
The question is this and since I have no clue about anything that is not 700c or tubulars so I have a couple of questions about this... Better try to find a super small a 650C or a 24 inch??? The 650 should last longer IMO. Never asked neither worried about it but, there's little kids cycling clothing, right?? Im not worried about shoes or clips... regular snickers and flat pedals should do the trick just fine. |

My son (10) has a Giant 24" with Claris. We found that he could get on it earlier and it would work fine until he was ready for a 700 wheel size bike is a smaller size. Had I waited a few more years, we might have got him on a 650 wheel size though.

my 8, 10, and 12 year olds have 24" factory road bikes. Redline, Trek, and Fuji. The Redline and Trek have 105 STI, but the Fuji has some weird stem shifter crap. The 8 year old rides that, and still doesn't really have the concept of shifting down, so it's not a big deal.
The 12 year old probably won't be ready for 700c for another year or two... but man, kids grow at their own rate. I see other 12 year olds that are already taller than me, so it obviously depends on your kids.

I started my daughter on the road with a fuji ace 650c. When she outgrew it we went to a trek 1000 wsd in size 47cm with 700c. I picked her up a 48cm wsd synapse which should at least last her a few more years.
The fuji served it's purpose, but the components were terrible. I don't know of too many 650c bikes that are built for children, but usually they are in good shape. Most don't get used excessively because kids outgrow them pretty quick. |

I had 2 of my boys on 700c by age 11. With the sloping frames it is easy to fit.
My daughter is 11 and has outgrown her 24 inch wheels road bike...so I am building her up a bike with 700c this winter for the spring....and of course with Campy!!! (Potenza) Sent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk |

Go for a 24" road (trek kdr1000, felt F24) then a 44cm 700c (specialized dolce, etc.)
if boys, do not mention dolce is woman's frame. it's temporary. buy used then sell. |

I almost went to look at that orange one. You can get current price from Peeformance's website. Here is a 2015 link for $350, 2016 was $30 more
http://www.performancebike.com/webap...052_1164754_-1 I found this today... 43cm Cannondale. It needs some tires and a shifter overhaul but is otherwise almost mint. Last edited by cmbicycles; 12-11-2016 at 09:13 PM. |
