For thin and light, it's hard to beat the Benchmade 530 Pardue, or the Kershaw Skyline.

Most clips nowadays are removable, and reversible depending on how you prefer to carry. You can usually also find deep-carry clips that still allow access, but sit the handle lower in the pocket than most factory clips.

When I was leading outdoor trips and working in retail, I found a 50/50 straight/serrated blade very useful. Now that I don't find mysdelf cutting fibrous material as much, having a non-serrated blade, especially in a smaller blade size, is more practical.

Why carry a knife?

For those of you who do, how often do you need to cut something? I kind of understand a multi-tool, but a knife just does one thing. Why bother filling your pockets with something you never use?

Looking great! I want one!

Here is mine. Buck Mini Bones. It's cheap and required some adjustments and sharpening but now it's great. I liked the camo

Spyderco used to pose a challenge to folks who were skeptical about carrying a knife every day: wear one for a month, then try to go a week without it.

I've used mine for everything from opening mail and breaking down cardboard boxes, to cutting takeout food into bite-sized pieces for my 2-year old, to removing tags from from clothing that I wanted to wear out of the store, to scraping a splinter out of the heel of my hand.

And that's just this week.

For me, it was one of those, "How did I ever live without one of these" kind of acquisitions.

FWIW, the most-used implement on the multi-tools I own is the pliers, because the knife blade is usually an afterthought compared to a dedicated knife. IF MTs had better knife blades, it would get the most use. But even if I'm packing a MT, I will still carry a knife for cutting tasks.

Good catch!

I pretty much always have one handy. I even hanse a small dive knife I carry when I go paddle boarding...not because I think I'm going to get into a fight with a shark or anything.....but I'm ready!!! If you have ever been caught up in fishing line, it will be the only way you can get through it.

On the other side, I pretty much train with them daily.

I subscribe to the old...I would rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

I've carried a pocket knife since I was elementary school. Lots of Buck Stockman's with the black handle.

For the last few years I've been carrying a Case XX peanut yellow boy. This is not my knife, but it's exactly like it. It's small but is perfect for EDC.
