Adjusting Campy 11s rear derailleur

I'm not clear on Campy's instructions to Adjust the 11s rear derailleur
They say to put the chain on the 5th sprocket and adjust to centerline of the 4th. Is this a typo?

I think it is a typo as I have done this 3 times this past month...I set up the alignment of both the high and low stops, then go to the 5th to align the cogs to the d's jockeys. Then I go down to the 4th from bottom and attempt to climb up to the 5th. From there add tension or release via the cable adjuster.

Mine all works but it is amazing how little of adj. is needed without jacking it all up.

If I am wrong I still am getting that good crisp campy changing.

I as well would like to see how others are doing it. What I find is the FD is more critical on alignment with the crank.

Not a typo or translation error. Read the French instructions and it says the same thing. Everything language is inconsistent except the Italian. Because in italy, all things Campagnolo are a priori and need not be explained.

Campagnolo is referring to the 5th cog from the smallest as when counting through the cassette and in step 2 refers to the same cog as the one achieved by 4 click steps on the shifter. Without actually saying that's what they mean.

I was going to say that.... 5th cog or 4 clicks that is the same thing. That thing is basically set up the same than 10 speed.

Yes, but it says: "Position the chain on the 5th" and then "turn the adjustor" (the cable barrel adjuster) until the top jockey lines up with the 4th sprocket.
I say it's a typo, and FWIW, I put the chain on sprocket 4 and then lined up the jockey and the shifts are crisp. (was not the case before I adjusted)

I think it's confusing, but the Italian and English versions say the same thing when they refer to both the "fifth" and "fourth" cogs. The only way this makes sense to me is to interpret it the way that Italian usage labels the floors of a building (like on the buttons in an elevator). U.S. usage would call the ground floor the "first" floor and so the "fifth" floor would be the one we'd be used to here. Italian usage calls the ground floor the zero or ground floor, making our fifth floor their "fourth" floor. Maybe this is how Italian refers to all things that are stacked, except Sophia Loren, Monica Bellucci, et al.

I think this all means you put the chain on the (U.S.) fifth cog and then use the barrel adjuster to line up the chain/pulleys with the (U.S.) fifth cog, full stop. It has nothing to do with clicks or some convoluted way of adjusting the barrel to get the chain aligned over (what we'd call) the fourth cog.

Makes perfect sense . . . .
