A billionaire's office is next to mine. He keeps his car collection in basement of the building.

He loves sports cars from the 50s and 60s. I have seen a few Ferraris and Aston Martins of this vintage come out of his driveway.

That Lada reminded me: while common as dirt (in every sense) in the DDR, I once came across a Trabant in, of all places, North Tarrytown (maybe renamed Sleepy Hollow at that point.)
North Tarrytown, some may recall, was where GM was assembling those awful needle-nosed plastic-bodied minivans, before shutting that plant down.
Coincidence?

Regarding the Avanti I don't want to disagree with it's rarity out on the roads however I live within a couple miles of a very proud elderly owner. He's owned that car like my whole adult life and then some.

I live near and at one time worked in the same building as Gullwing Motors, a company that specializes in antique european restoration projects. They are the home base for Ralph Lauren's rarest of the rare Bugatti. Once in a while these guys would take a car for a shake down run a few miles out of the headquarters. To see and hear these big old cars made in the 20's, 30's. It's pretty amazing.

When I moved back to the US from Italy, I brought two cars with me. The yellow one was one of two in the US (the other was lodged for a while in the Larz Anderson museum), the burgundy one had an Abarth twin carb set-up. The yellow one was eventually sold to a dealer in California, who then sold it onwards to a collector in Japan. The burgundy one was sold to a doctor in Texas.

i drove on the highway from Ventimiglia to Nice last weekend (yes, i'm a lucky bastard) when a small convoy passed my car. It consisted of

- 1 Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider (white)
- 1 Mercedes 300SL roadster (creme)
- 1 Lamborghini Miura SV (orange)
- 1 Ferrari 365GTS Spider (metallic blue)

sorry, no pics.. my co-driver was so excited she fumbled the smartphone

Our neighbor's project BMW Isetta.

A different neighbor always has some interesting baubles as well.

While not "exotic" at all, I've owned a half dozen TRs.

3s, 4s and 6s.

Our family car when we visit our relatives in Bayern is a B series Mercedes. I'm afraid it's deadly dull, but I kinda wish I had it here. It would be somewhat unusual here in Minnesota and it is incredibly reliable.

How did I miss this thread?? Great stuff.....

When we lived in LA I was riding my normal PV/Donut Ride loop early one Saturday and while I was at the most remote part near Abalone Cove, a BMW M1 like the one pictured below came tearing around a bend. I must've had my jaw wide open as the driver smiled and gave me a thumbs up as he passed. I'm not a huge BMW guy, but that was always one of my favorite cars as a kid and I never expected to see one just driving around.

My last employer shared a parking lot with a famous hedge fund in Stamford, Ct.. Well, there was a grass divider, but you could could look across and check out the latest toys. One guy was into 60s and 70s race cars minimally modified to be street legal. He had a cool stable of three or four, but the standout was a Gulf GT40 with Lemans history. Pretty crazy.

There is a guy who works out of a pretty shady looking import export office down the street from my company's production facility in South San Francisco. It is very much a warehouse area with lots of semis parked and coming by all hours of the day. From day to day he parks on the main road in front of his office either a Ferrrari F12 TDF, a 488 or a Bentley Continental GT. All driven Rain or Shine. I am waiting for the day a truck misjudges the slightly narrow road.

When I was a kid, probably in the late '60 or early '70s we were on vacation in Lake George, NY. I could identify most cars on the road at the time, but there was a car in our motel parking lot that fascinated me: a Facel Vega. Don't recall ever seeing another one.
