Chainstay protector on curved chainstays? What do you use?
The X-night is here and it looks sweet. It needs a chainstay protector. What do you use on stays curved for heel clearance? Helicopter tape doesn't do complex curves well.

Warm it up with a hairdryer and flex/stretch it into place and you should be fine.

It also helps to cut the protective tape into the same curve as the chainstay when viewed from above. Then Dave's hairdryer trick and Bob's your uncle!

Piece of a used tube cut to the shape you want. If cut neatly, it looks fine and it's better protection than tape. Attach with silicone glue that holds up, but is easily removed later. If necessary hold it down with electrical tape while it dries.
PS and who is this Bob guy? Certainly is a randy feller, looking toward a long cold MT winter now? Last edited by zennmotion; 09-09-2015 at 01:28 PM. |

Lizard Skins carbon leather.
I use the two of the chain stay protectors on the chainstay, extending from BB to dropout, and the patches behind he chainrings and underside of chainstay next to chainring (chain suck protection). The adhesive lasts forever and it is pliable on curvy stuff. http://shop.lizardskins.com/collecti...ther-chainstay http://shop.lizardskins.com/products...eather-patches |
