VW has a 2% market share, they could pull the plug on the us market and no one would be wiser. Be the best business move. Tdi gate would have never happened

Come back in ten years and all would be forgiven

Investors would love it

I haven't looked closely at the competitive landscape, but I'd bet a few bucks that VW is in the US only as deterrent to the US companies making strong moves against them at home. Without that credible threat in the US market, the US companies could move more aggressively into Germany and Europe.

I agree that from a pure $ and cents standpoint, you are probably right. But there are strategic implications for such a move that make it more complicated.

Cars... what cars?

EPA could fine them and they could pullout and totally ignore it

I'm fairly certain that would lead to negative consequences for Audi and Porsche in the USA, possibly even extending to non-VWAG German manufacturers that export to the US.

Very doubtful. I suspect the end result will be fines, buy backs, mods and future investment commitments in the USA.

Doesn't look like Feinberg will be riding to the rescue, after all.

So the lawyers, not the consumers, get the lions share of the future settlement?

I don't think that's what it says, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, maybe I'm misreading, I guess he's just saying that there won't be any settlement process going forward until VW come up with an acceptable solution.
