Great machines! I have a 100 series now as a daily driver and have had a 60 in the past. The prices that some of the 40s and 60s are bringing now is incredible! The 80s are starting to move up as well.

There's a sweet, all-original, tan 1978 40 sitting in a small town about an hour East of Austin that has <20K miles on it. I've been working on the owner for a couple of years now to sell it as its sat in the same spot, unused for at least 15 years that I'm aware of. Open the door and it smells like old gas and old vinyl. It would need to be completely gone through, but the things are simple tractors. It would be a fun project. This thread has me thinking about it again - I may need to stop by on my next trip to Houston.

I've posted these before but since it's a thread about LC's...

Tex... I bought mine from a guy in austin. I wouldn't be surprised if you knew him. His name is Brian Bergeron (sp?). It is a white 60 (1987) that he had most all of the work done at LC Specialists. It has been a great rig.

I had a 1987 fj60 and really regret selling it. Unfortunately it wouldn't pass the emissions test we have in our county and I didn't have the time or ready cash to make the needed repairs. One of the people who considered buying it was from Botswana and owns a company that takes tourists on wildlife photo safaris in their national parks. Landcruisers are much more reliable than Landrovers and he was willing to pay the shipping and import fees to acquire them.

There's no doubt old LCs are incredibly cool, but for me, my lust after version of it would be a MB G-Wagon (small barrier: price!). For a vehicle that's utterly over-built and over-engineered for the everyday world, why not opt for the German military?

There is a guy in Mass who occasionally brings in containers with LC's and LC stuff from Aussie land.

There are a few nice ones local right now..FJ55 https://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/ct...167462241.html

That is a SWEET Pig. (For those not in the know, the FJ55s are sometimes called Iron Pigs.)

Nice. It's too bad that no one offers an updated basic 4 wheel drive like those old fj's here in the US.

Not anymore.

See, if you know where to look you can find the good stuff imported here after the 25 yr rule...

This 91 HZJ77 LC is pretty nice.

while they dont have the following of the LC club, there are plenty of older Jeep Cherokees around today, and can be had inexpensively. i understand they are not the same, but these jeeps can be built out with readily available parts to be really excellent offroad. the jeep inline-6 is pretty dead reliable too and cheap to maintain. easy as pie to work on too.

^ Also cool.
I stumbled upon an abandoned International Harvester Scout on vacation in Maui a few years ago. At the time I didn't even know what it was, but it made an impression and I still have the photos on my phone. It looked like a pretty cool little runabout as well. Don't know much about them or see many around.

Back on topic, this '75 is on CL not far from me. Tempting to ditch the family SUV and/or sensible sedan and go Mad Max.

Absolutely kicking myself for not grabbing a FJ60 for sale here in the Bay, about 6 months ago. Really gorgeous example with an OME suspension and 40-gallon gas tank, but a tiny little bit of rust on the roof scared me off. It ended up going for a song. Whoever bought that thing got the deal of the century. Now I just drool and look at photos of other people's FJ60s.

Yup, I had one of these in between the 40 and the 60. The inline-6 was solid, it was capable, and I had no issues with it. And yes there is a ton of aftermarket support to build them up. With the prices of 40's and 60's climbing, and all the other LC's they didn't bring into the U.S., the Cherokee is a good platform to start with.
