Stephen Bilenky-Craftsman's Legacy

I'm catching this about half way through. The episode should circulate for a while on your local PBS Create TV. |

I can't believe this hasn't sold: https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bik/6102663087.html
If anyone here wants it, I'd be happy to facilitate. Forum Quote du Jour: "It's just a bike. If you want another and can afford it, buy it. It will be fast, if you pedal it fast." -- Jr59

Wow. I'd love to show up at their door with a screen-shot of that if I were trying to negotiate...still, it's worth what someone will pay for it, and seems like a good bike even at $2K...I generally don't begrudge the opportunist as long as they are being honest about condition, etc. of the product... My point is that the value seems to be established to be about $1,285 plus some reasonable amount of shipping. It sold at that price and presumably hasn't been sold since.

That's within a few hundred dollars of what I would have guessed as its average value. The CL price was delusional/optimistic.

This is Portland - everything here is delusional to some extent.. At least this is supported by some nice craftsmanship in that frame and the Campy group. Forum Quote du Jour: "It's just a bike. If you want another and can afford it, buy it. It will be fast, if you pedal it fast." -- Jr59

I wondered about his offer to trade for a "gravel/adventure bike-disc brakes only." Well, why wouldn't this Bilenky that he already owns fit that description?

I'm curious why this is so. A custom frame that isn't too odd from a highly respected builder; Campy Record 10 group; White Industries wheels; King, Nitto, Brooks. This bike isn't worth $2300? It seems to me that the fact it sold on ebay for $1K less can be happenstance.
This is a serious question - why is it ridiculously priced (especially if you didn't know the ebay price)? Thanks |

What would you attach to the fork crowns?

In this case it's a large frame from a smaller name builder. Those two factors definitely work against it. Bilenky stuff tends to be on the heavier/over built side as well. Smaller name, large build AND campy all lead to a relatively small market where you either have to be very patient or accept it's going to sell pretty low. I think a lot of people buying bikes like this also want to build it themselves, so the parts on there are just things they have to take off. It limits market. |

Typically a small front rack, I'd guess.
