Winter Bicycles- "Sallet" single speed race bike

This is a new single speed race bike headed to the NW. The owner was kind enough to let me hold onto it for Bespoked where it won "Best Finish".

This was the first bike built in the new facility, and my first go at paint (many thanks to Rody for guiding me through it). I'm excited to be sending it off to it's owner for some real riding!

The full write up and photo set can be found here. Additional construction and completed shots on flickr here.

Thanks!

This bike has a red base with a hand rubbed/ blackened finish trying to be a bit evocative of the rat rod oil rubs, but with a high gloss. It also has some simulated primer grey (colored paint) "wear spots". As the bike is raced and knocked about it should age into it's finish really well.

I painted this under Rody (Groovy Cycles) tutelage. Rody is a great friend and was excited to help me on these early steps towards painting.

Cool That awesome paint job reminds me of....

those wild paint jobs done by Richard Schwinn on the Paramounts back in the 70s and 80s with the lamp-black look where they would take a frame still wet and place a kerosene lamp (?) emitting black smoke and allow it to permeate the paint.

This ranks up there with Dario Pegoretti and John Slawta.

Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful frame. The choice of crank seems particularly anachronistic, however.

Thanks. Intentionally so- that is precisely the word we used to describe the parts kit and aesthetic decisions.
