Why no Jonathan Vaughters at TdF?

I was just reading an article that had a quote from Jonathan Vaughters and I realized I didn't see one interview with him on NBCSN this year. In the past, it was pretty common to see him chatting with the media. I did miss several stages of TV coverage, so he could have popped up then.

Whenever the media chatted to a rep from Garmin Sharp, it was never JV. Any idea about his lack of face time?

As long as you follow him on twitter you will get plenty of his grumping about armchair quarterbacks, etc...

I agree he has been slightly less visible and have my own tin foil hat theories as to why (read, his riders caught doping), but he is definitely still around

His lack of exposure is one of the few bright spots of this year's Tour.

What happens to Slipstream, which he owns in part?

Tinkoff and Garmin are not merging. Cannondale and Garmin may be merging. It's been talked about for a few weeks.

Cannondale merging with Slipstream with Garmin leaving or becoming a minor sponsor I get. I don't get what Tinkoff's part can be. The only thing I can think of is Sagan and maybe a few other Cannondale riders are going to Tinkoff and JV is part of the negotiations.

maybe because his team stood a better chance of winning with someone else making the strategic and tactical decisions.

He's getting his MBA (or maybe already has it by now.) So maybe we'll see more focus on IRR and NPV in pro cycling.

From the (way) outside looking in, JV built a world-class, American-based team from the ground up. People have done less with more (I'm thinking HTC High Road here). I don't mind his sartorial splendor, either. I don't get the hate*, I guess is what I'm saying.

* At this point, I don't care about the doping, lies, coming clean, etc.; he's no different than most in that regard.
