Wiggins- no more playing w/ roadies

http://velonews.competitor.com/2014/...o-track_338300

“I’ve kind of done the road now. I’ve bled it dry,” he told the BBC. “The road is quite cutthroat. The track feels more like a family and a closer-knit group of people.”

Have heard similar comments from buds who raced road and now ride primarily cross or mt bike.

Obviously not at the same pro level but guessing its more the business of pro road cycling that he considers "cuthroat" especially with the events of this year.

Maybe he watched "slaying the badger" and realized his plans wouldn't work because Hinnault already tried it.

didn't he kind of say the previous year that he wasn't too interested in GTs anymore?
then this year got bent out of shape over not getting selected for TdF...

I'm sure one of the oligarchs could pay him with the spare change he found in his sofa.

Yep, Im sure if there is a team that wants him and can afford him, he may change his tune and find them "like a family and a closer-knit group of people"

Nothing higher to aim for when you've won the TdF. He obviously won't beat the 5 times winners, or 7 if you count L***e.

Why would another team hire him? He is a head case. He does not know what he wants. He has motivations issues and is 34.

if he could be motivated enough, and since he needs to add some mass for track anyway, it might be a good couple seasons to make a run at some Classics. he did surprisingly well at P-R and has said he'd like to get a win there. forget the GTs and become a specialist.

This. He has the TT chops to be a good Classics rider.

I'm 44 and still don't know what I want....well, I do, but that's not very likely to happen.

wouldn't necessarily hire him with the expectation to win the TdF...as someone who's won the TdF, he'd be a strong addition to a team who can ride/coach/lead the team. He may be a head-case off the bike, but on the bike he's still a beast. From a Public Relations perspective, he's got good name recognition and if you needed to recruit others, might help bring in other talented riders.

Track? Isn't that where nearly all of the talented riders switch to road because they can make good money instead of survive on a government stipend and the hope that years in the future it might pay off?

What has he done lately other than get ten years older, say that the dedication to train for the Tour is too much, and complain that roadies are mean? No one knows from week to week whether he'll be training on his bike or training in the local pub. That for two million pounds a year...I don't think so.
