Israel has consistently been in various european events, I guess because of various cultural/economic pressures. They've been in the eurovision song contest for years and years, and I suspect the EU is the biggest trading partner.

call me cynical, but that just introduces an unnecessary element of risk into an already complex operation/logistic.

but hey, it's their race and the organizers didn't ask my opinion.

i don't get it. tour of italy? i can get starting in a bordering country where you ride INTO italy, but i dont understand these moves.

as mentioned, no one asked for my opinion, so...

hmm, i wonder if i can convince the organizers of the Tour of California to start here in NYC?

This. Must ride through Turkey, which isn't exactly safe, to get to Italy from The Holy Land.
