Blue Angels

They just flew over my house so low I could see the pilots.

I'll try to get a picture tomorrow. I'm on an approach path for this weekends air show.

Cool video of Blue Angels-it gives you an idea of how close they fly and how many small adjustments they need to constantly make to stay in formation.

I tried last time they were in town, had the camera set up and everything. They fly at the exact same time each day. Went to an open field, hoping to hear them before they arrived. I got a picture of blue sky.

recently attended a general aviation formation flying class.

the instructors were all former military fighter jocks and there were 11 aircraft divided into 3 flights. pre-flight briefings were lengthy and conducted in utmost seriousness.

pilots were expected to maintain a distance of 20-25' between aircraft at speeds of ~130 kts which, for guys used to trying to have as much clear airspace as possible, was somewhat challenging.

altho there wasn't a lot of 'scary' maneuvers, just doing group TOs, echelon turns, and landings, everyone felt like they were really out on the 'edge'...

watching the BAs do their routines is just orders of magnitude more impressive.

We always get cool planes passing through here just because of our location. This year's air show is Sept. 30. I'm looking forward to the osprey hovering over the interstate waiting its turn at the airport. Don't think we're getting the angles this year...looks like we're getting the thunderbirds though!

Always loved the F-4, and I'm certainly a fan of the Blue Angels. Unfortunately, the F-4's tenure with the Blues was not without consequences: http://thanlont.blogspot.com/2017/05...on-of-f-4.html

I think the Thunderbirds put on a better show personally.
