Mountain View, CA Recommendations
I'm going to be in Mountain View on Tuesday and should have about 4-5 hours of daylight in between flight and meetings. Not going to work to bring my cross bike along unfortunately, but according to trail forks there are a lot of trails nearishby.
My plan is to rent a MTB from Cognition cycles (looks like they have some nice bikes for reasonable rates) and do a 3ish hour loop. Any recommendations on the best trails to hit or roads to avoid en route? I am not into stunts but definitely into steepish single track and fun flowy stuff that doesn't require mad skillz. Thanks! |

If you are renting a FS trail bike then hit up Soquel Demo Forest or Skeggs(El Corte de Madera). Unfortunately both are 45-60min away.
Water Dog park in Belmont is also pretty decent.(30-40mins) If you want something closer, Stevens Canyon, Russian Ridge, Fremont Older are decent. |

I'd say Skeggs/Corte Madera too but I think it is still on fire.
http://www.smdailyjournal.com/news/l...1897dea53.html Unfortunately there is minimal real single track on this side of the mountain - Soquel Demo Forest & UCSF are just too far for a weekday jaunt. I guess I'd drive up Page Mill and ride Montebello, Russian Ridge, etc. If the weather is nice it's enjoyable, a 29er hard tail would be just fine. Last edited by dem; 09-14-2017 at 09:07 PM. |

Gazos creek. The loop is about 70 miles from Palo Alto so a little lomger than you want. But its the prettiest ride ever.

Based on your plan and timing I would say Stevens Creek County Park and Fremont Older. You can get to them in about 20-30 minutes (by bike) and then do loops for an hour or two until you are dizzy. Nothing unusually technical but a great workout and excellent views.

+1 on Skeggs if it is safe and accessible
I haven't been to Gazos Creek, but would pretty much trust Joosttxx on any dirt ride suggestions... check out his photos on the Gravel Bike thread! |
