Vintage Bianchi build- modern Campy aficionados, help?

What would be the Campy version of this?

C Record crankset and maybe previous gen silver calipers would be cool... but I know nothing of the more modern stuff. Thinking of building something like this on a late 80's SLX Bianchi frame.

Cool retro mod Eddy build:

If the preference is all silver (and it should be and you care to go as large as you can in the cassette maybe C-Record crank + the shifty stuff form the newer Potenza group, which goes up to 32t.

Maybe throw in some Chorus Monoplanar brake calipers for style points.

Retro-modern always wins.

^^ Yes, all silver. Maybe dark rims, period correct, but that's the only aesthetic deviation allowed.

I think even a 28t would suffice. I do love the look of dark rims with gumwalls. I guess carbon is out of the question?

If you want to go silver why just dont go potenza silver? Or maybe leave that dura ace crankset and swap everything else with potenza silver?

Had the money and where to find the parts I would do c record crankset (with 11 speed chainrings), delta brakes and the rest 11 speed potenza silver.

C-Record crank
Deltas or Monoplaners
Chrous alloy 10sp Ergos
Campy Ti seatpost.
TB14 rims.

Though if it was mine I'd probably skip the Ergos and use DT shifters...Simplex or Campy Retrofrictions.

If you are talking 'period correct', then it would be Campagnolo C-Record with Delta Brakes. Or just after it with the Monoplaner Brakes.

You need to state your priorities rather than leaving us to guess at them from the picture. Do you want the Campagnolo equivalent to 7400, or C8 with a wide range cassette, or perhaps something else I'm not seeing? I'm not sure what you are looking for.

Retros Moderns

Sounds as if the OP wants to mix the following:

80s/90s Top group polished crank
90s/early 2000s Silver brakes (Delta, Record, Chorus - 9s/10s era or 2000s Skeleton)
11s SR, Record or Chorus shifters, FD and RD

True match of the Merckx would mean C Record cranks, 10s Non Skeleton alloy brakes, and 2015 Record Shifters, FD and RD. For a nicer less "retro-modern" mix go with 2009 Super Record to get more shiny bits in there.

Retro Modern. The guy driving this car was older than the first Campy rear derailleur

Since you asked this specific question, I think the "Campag" equivalent of that bike would be C Record or Record 10 Titanium crank and Athena 11 everywhere else -- nice and simple. Switch out the modern skeleton brakes for Deltas if you value style over performance.

Wheels can be high-polish H Plus Son TB14s laced to silver Record hubs. The hard-anondized version of the TB14s would be an acceptable alternative but I'd steer clear of the black -- the coating on the brake track fails quickly and then the wheels look like doodoo.

Post pics when done

If the Merckx were the Shimano equivalent of proposed Athena build, the shifters, FD and RD would be silver 5800.
