This is my favorite:

https://www.coppertone.com/products/...on/bodylotion/
(but the last I bought did not have any fragrance, which would be a deal killer for me??)

This might be the new version:

https://www.coppertone.com/products/...sheer-whipped/

I've used most all the usual suspects but this beats them all. Bought the first bottle of "50" in Tucson a couple of years ago and been using this stuff since. It is a bit expensive but I think worth it.

The upshot of Consumer Reports' annual sunscreen evaluation is you can pretty much use whatever you want as long as you go for a very high SPF. In CR's own words:

"...the results of our tests over the years indicate that choosing a chemical sunscreen with an SPF of 40 or higher will give you a better chance of getting at least an SPF 30."

http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/s...s/buying-guide

Using an SPF of 30 would mean staying in the sun for 3 hours would be equivalent to being in the sun unprotected for 6 minutes. Unless you're riding all day long you should be fine.

Watch out...

...for anything that stings your eyes. Have had bad experiences with a combo of sunscreen, sweat and wind.

Also, best treatment for sunburn: room temperature bath with a few cups of apple cider vinegar for about 15-20 mins. Cures the burn. You will smell like vinegar for a night but your skin will no longer hurt.

I made sure to use sunscreen on my ride Sunday. I've been using some generic brand stuff that works ok, but I have no idea what nasty chemicals it contains. The bottle is pretty much empty and I plan on doing some research now that I need to replace it. I put the stuff on pretty heavily since I haven't seen any sun in what seems like about 10 months. I got some color on my face, but no burn. My knees didn't tan, but the 1 cm thick layer of dead gnats I acquired probably helped protect me.

I've been wearing sun protection arm sleeves for the last couple of years and they work well. I can do a 5 hour ride in the sun and not have any burn at all without using sunscreen under them. They look incredibly dorky, but it's worth it. They aren't as hot as I expected them to be. If I'm going over 15 mph they actually work to cool me down.

Banana boat sport is the one I like (smells good, stays on when I sweat, and is pretty non greasy). I prefer the rub on vs spray on kinds as they seem to stay on better.
