Don’t forget hope hubs too! The pro4 series are plenty loud, on top of being cheaper than I9’s and very, very reliable.

Hadley hubs — also like a can of angry bees on fast road descents. Titanium freehub body to boot (no cassette marring!)

They actually do. No bell needed when you have I9's coming down the trail.
Also the lovely streets of LA notice you more when you're buzzzzzzzzin. |

Holy **** — don’t do this is right! DT star ratchets, when freshly and properly greased, make very little noise. Even the 54t ones. Louder if you use freehub oil. Just require frequent reapplication (and cleaning what oozes out). Use the DT SWISS grease, it requires almost a weekly application. I have the 54t on two bikes - they get loud quick -

I have two sets of wheels I ride mostly. When new, they were very quiet. One a black Campagnolo Record, and the other a very similar Campagnolo Zonda. Started noticing the Record was skipping some, so took the cassette body off to get to the pawls, and the single spring that encircles the paws was broken. I maybe broke it when doing some service some months earlier. So....I ordered some springs with idea of replacing both. The new replacement Campagnolo pawl springs are thicker and studier than the original springs. I replaced both....and now....even with a liberal coating of very light grease.....they are both much louder than when new.
So noise level is not always about amount of lube....at least not on Campagnolo hubs. |

Onyx hubs are awesome. Love the silent coasting. Don't think they're particularly more or less ugly than other hubs, depending on color...onyx has some doozies.
Also, FWIW, your Zipp Cognition hub in your NSW wheel sounds like grinding gears and all kinds of terrible, consider this procedure. Most of the sets of NSW wheels we've done (maybe 5 out of 6 wheelsets?) have required fairly frequent application and reapplication of their cognition oil....nose changed from a muted clicking like Zipp claims it should be, to this cacophony of grinding almost instantly at some point. One set is even off on its way back to Zipp at this moment, because it's had to be done way way too often. |

Ninja for the win. Anyone who knows you are coming is an obstacle imo. If they are clueless you are there, perfect.

Agreed. My R45s are very quiet. Did not start out that way - they were very buzzy when new. But after breaking-in and and lubing, not any louder than my Campy hubs. I no longer even notice them.

The regular CK hubs are easily the loudest out there. They sound like a Stuka Dive Bomber in a full dive. The cure? Don't stop peddling.
