I had a 9 speed Record hub that drove me nuts with all the racket.
I never needed a horn or bell on a MUT.

Another vote here for the King old school hubs, especially when they get a bit dry and need to be lubed.

Fairwheel did a noise comparison video a few years ago;

That equates with my experience. I find my R45 hubs to be among the quieter of my quiver of wheels. I find my 240s hubs (with 36T and the holy racket 54T ratchets) and my WI T11's to be louder, with the T11's having a bit of a tinier sound than the 240s hubs.

From my personal experience (not much) loudest to quietest:

Hope > I9 > CK > DT240 (18t) > WI T11 > Shimano

The Hope Mono RS rear I have is pretty loud but the tone is a little more tolerable than the CK, which sounds more nasal-y/whiny to me. The Hope has a darker mid-tone sound.

I also had a White Industries Mi5, which was nice. Somewhere between Shimano quiet and the buzzy Hopes and CKs tone zone. Clicky but not particularly loud.

I upgraded the freehub in my White Industries T11's from the stock 24T to 48T and they're loud as hell now. Very happy with the engagement and noise they produce. Comparable to my I9 CX hubs.

what's your vote for the loudest rear hub?
My wife, on the back of the tandem. Usually going uphill in the granny gear when the honey-do list comes up as a topic of "conversation"

Industry9 are very quite loud. Probably the loudest of the standard options from the boutique brands that I can think of....I'd also like to toss Profile Racing out there. Only thing I can think of off-hand that'll be louder than an I9.

Haven't had a set of project321 hubs in my hands, but I think they're very quite loud also.

Also, fwiw, the White Industries hubs get considerably louder if the high engagement ring is added to them. They go from being on the quiet side of things to being on the loud side of things.

I rebuilt my old I9 hubs into some 45mm carbon hoops for my father....that's a damned loud wheel.

my hunt wheels are super loud, they have some sort of modified novatec taiwan hub. They are substantially louder than campy record hubs

None of the pawl hubs sound as good to me. Though I rode with a guy for awhile that had a set of Hadley hubs which sounded okay. I got hooked on the specific buzz of an old set of silver DT Swiss Hugi hubs that could be heard from a block away. The pawls just don’t sound the same for some reason; they’re intrusive not loud to my ear. Sort of like those mufflers people put on their exhaust instead of investing in an actual exhaust system. Each to their own!

The bitex hubs like from bikehubstore and used in lots of oem wheels/wheel brand wheels are damn loud too, now that you say that.
