This is an horrific event. There have been many extreme weather events in the past year which are shocking to those of us with many years observing the world. We are thinking of all of you out there and hoping for respite for you. Best wishes from the Northeast.

Wow. Thoughts go out to all affected. Those photos are just heartbreaking. Hard to comprehend how everything is just completely wiped out. Hoping it gets better and fast. Matthew

Unreal. I'm from the midwest and this looks worse than tornadoes. That's saying something.

One more thing. Appropriate to this kind of event, I heard a story about a community in MA dealing with a disaster a few years ago, out of which came this effort:

https://recovers.org

It is a free online tool for better organizing disaster relief and support, which struck me as clever, useful and contemporary. Everyone should tell their local FD/PD and municipal government about it, I think. At the least it gets them thinking, and at best, it does a job when needed.

Winds are forecast to pick back up tonight. Looks like it'll be getting worse before it gets better.

Good luck to everyone effected.

Just a tip, if you have small children and are impacted by the smoke, get out until it's over. It's not great for adults to have that kind of exposure, it can be super bad for the little ones. My son was in infant during one of the major AZ fires and probably developed respiratory issues due to it.
