Shimano 11s hub cassette spacing

I think I read that 11s ultegra 11-32 cassette would fit a 10s hub. (I do not trust my memory.)
I tried a 105 11s 11-32 cassette on a spare wheel I had laying around. The hub was too short to allow the tightening nut to thread.
So I ground a the rim off the inside of the cassette (on the large tooth side). It was about a 1mm thick. And the hub was still too short to allow the nut to thread.

Should I buy an Ultegra cassette, or an XT 11-34 cassette. (does shimano make an XT 11s cassette 11-34, or are they all 42 or 44 large cog?)

I would like to use this wheel but I do not want to lace a different hub to this rim.

You may have to let people know what the hub is you are referring to. The answer can vary depending on the manufacturer of the hub. For some it a matter of what spacer is used behind the cassette while for others it simply will not be compatible.

11sp mtb fits on 9sp mtb hub. 11sp Road fits on 11sp Road hub.

Hub Spacing

Sorry for the vague post.

I have a 8-10 speed shimano hub.

I read that 11s mtb cassette will fit. The cassette has enough dish to fit.

But I thought I read that 11s Ultegra also had enough dish to fit a 10s hub.

no 5800 or 6800 cassettes will fit on a shimano 10 speed hub, as you have. the newest ultegra line, 8000 has an 11-34 cassette that will fit the 10 speed hub.

This only applies to the new Ultegra 11/34 HG800 cassette for whatever reason.

The newest shimano ultegra, 8000, 11-34 is dished like the MTB 11s cogsets so will fit onto a shimano 8/9/10s hub like yours. No other 'road' 11s cogset tho..

Must be an echo in here...
