Stats on Cyclist Safety/Lethal Accidents on Rise
"As traffic fatalities are up across the board, bicyclist deaths rose 12.2% in 2015, the largest percentage increase of any other roadway user group that year. To address this troubling trend, GHSA and State FarmĀ® have partnered on a new report, A Right to the Road: Understanding & Addressing Bicyclist Safety."
http://www.ghsa.org/resources/bicyclist-safety2017 Glad to see public organizations are taking notice and tracking incident rates. Hopefully this will lead to more public education initiatives. Of course, the actuarians are going to have a field day! |

Bogus sensationalism
This quote shows a careful cherry picking of data to produce a sensational claim. Using the exact same set of data, the previous year's headline would have read as follows:
"As traffic fatalities are down across the board, bicyclist deaths dropped 3.3% in 2014, the largest percentage decrease of any other roadway user group that year." (Data source: http://www.iihs.org/iihs/topics/t/ge...fatality-facts) |
