I'm not sure what financing a billion-dollar stadium does for a city, beyond 10 Sundays a year and the occasional monster truck event.
This..Not saying $billion dollar stadiums are any answer but all these people spend $.Yesterday's Bronco rally/parade.

You know what the worst is?

People that are "fans" of colleges they never took a single class at.

Just because of some ····ing sports team.

I'm sure none of those folks spend money in the 303/720

I'd never support the economic argument for a sport team/new stadiums, but unless you want to tell me how you only buy stuff that is made in the USA, regardless of expense...find a different road to go down.

and 8.31% sales tax...1,000,000 at this rally..if each spent $5 that day-$400,000+, one day. Like it or don't, sports teams make $ for the city/state. yes, for the NFL, owners, etc., but the question as to 'why' the stadium...plus

"On August 16, 2011, The Metropolitan Stadium District announced Invesco would immediately transfer the naming rights to Englewood, Colorado-based Sports Authority in a 25-year agreement worth $6 million per year"

$150,000,000.

My stuff is only made in China... For Rapha.

Of course they spend money locally. I'm just pointing out that the real return for the millions of taxpayer dollars that go into stadiums goes back to the NFL and to dumb-ass jerseys with names of other people on the back.

I've always found it quite ridiculous that grown men walk around playing dress up like their favorite football player. When their replica jersey is in the wash do they dress up like astronauts and policemen?

$150,000,000.
unless i'm mistaken (and i could be), the city doesn't see a dime of that $150M. Those get pocketed by the team, not for the repayment of the bonds taken out by the city.

And please tell me how many days it would take to recoup that amount. And even if you were to recoup that amount, there is still opportunity cost here.

edit: i'm partially mistaken. $400M stadium; $300M of which footed by the city, the other $100M by the owner. The naming rights get split half/half, but apparently even that's not enough to avoid cutting of school funding alluded to above.

Colleges are a source of regional pride (UK, UNC, Illinois). Many couldn't afford to go to college, but they push their kids to attend.

I don't see any harm here.
