Impact of exercise on broken blood vessel in eye

In a first for me, I woke up this morning and when I looked in the mirror saw that I have a pretty good-sized red blotch in the corner of my left eye. (I'd guess about 15-20% of the total area of the white of the eye.)

Would exercise have any significant negative impact on this?

Tonight's my night for rowing, and doing a few core exercises like vertical knee raises and stuff like that.

Thanks

I get those once in a while. They look nasty, but I don't think there is any negative impact.

That said, what for an ophthalmologist to chime in here!!

I used to get those from playing water polo from a hand in the eye and continued to play every day after. Since it sounds like yours was spontaneous it might be slightly different but I doubt it. I would row but i might go easy on the core exercises as they will increase your intra-ocular pressure and slightly increase your risk of rupturing another vessel.
That said an ophthalmologist will know better than I.

I have had them once or twice and been told that as long as the blood is not penetrating into the iris area, not to worry to much about it. They are caused by bursting blood vessels, and that can happen as a result of strenuous exercise, or coughing, etc. they usually take 2-3 weeks to clear.

Well, I just finished my workout, and as best I can tell, I still have my vision, and the red blotch hasn't gotten significantly worse. I did lower the drag factor on the rower a bit, so it wasn't possible to pull quite as hard as before, and I chose a somewhat lower pace than usual.

I did all the other core stuff, but didn't push much.

We'll see how things are tomorrow morning, but as long as things don't get any worse I'll be happy, since it takes so long for this to resolve on its own.

If things get worse I'll call my ophthalmologist's office and see what they say.

Thanks for the advice.

Louis

Glad the eye 'seems' ok and I have received a lot of good advice here BUT...I think I would have talked to a MD before seeing 'what happened' with something as important as an eye. Imho, ymmv and all that.
