Am currently a host myself and have used it a couple times out on a trip to have a care package sent to.

Try to discourage people from over relying on it though. Have hosted a couple people who were relying solely on the service for lodging every night, going from one host to another every night. While better than staying in hotels, as it does still provide some immersion in local culture, it detracts from the spontaneity of the adventure.

My most memorable "hosts" have been people I've met near sunset, who go from complete strangers to taking me into their home. Every such experience reminds me that there is still love kindness in this world.

I signed up very recently. While I'm currently unable to host (my niece is living in our guest room for a while), I hope to be able to do so sometime in the future.

I'm also currently looking for a place for one night on a trip I'm taking in a week.
