Help me ID these 90's aero-ish wheels.
I'm not sure if they're no names or de labeled. Anyone recognize these? I bid for the auction just wanting the frame, but if they're decent I'll give 'em a try.

my guess is some flavor of Rolf wheels. they are the only ones i know who were big on the paired spoke arrangement.

Thanks! I am as well and have always heard fantastic things about the EL-OS. I'll see what I can find in the Rolf department.

Yes, those look like Rolf wheels. They were the one doing the paired spokes like that back then. Trek licensed them for a while in the 90's.

Wheels
Agree they kinda look like Rolf's, Vectors but the hub looks wrong.
No expert, hubs look like either Shimano or Campy, the rear wheel would make easier to identify Ray |

Many people did paired spokes.
Bianchi had a pair in black and silver. The black ones had carbon hub shell inserts. Velocity had a black and silver pair with Deep V rims Shimano, Rolf, Miche, Gipiemme American Classic even played with them. This, they look like the ones Bianchi had in Silver. The Velocity ones had a more rounded rim at the spoke nipple. The Bianchi ones came to a point like these. And the Velocity ones had a satin silver hub and rim. The Bianchi ones were polished. My bet, Bianchi's house brand ones. Which were actually Gipiemme Wheels. And yes, very nice looking EL frame. Always loved that design/finish. My second racing bike, first really nice one was a Bianchi. My friend Ray still has the very first Bianchi frame to come to the US. It was his fathers if that gives you an idea of it's age. |

I have a pair of old mavics that have the same rim profile, but definitely a different spoke pattern. They do look an awful lot like role vectors based on the lacing pattern though.

TO me looks like the rims are gipiemme tecnos but the hubs are something else, the crossing is just normal like 2x, gipiemme tecnos was straight spokes. Maybe this is a set of custom wheels?

My guess was Gipiemme also.

The Bianchi rims had a 2x lacing pattern. The black carbon/alloys ones a 1x.
The Rolf rim didn't come to such a point. It was more rounded. Now, depending on the rim height, these could be some prototype ones we played with back at American Classic. We did have some silver CR-420 rims in. But these are totally different hubs. The Protos I built up had the Micro hubs on them. I also made them in black. My best guess is these are Gipiemme wheels. But most likely the Bianchi branded ones. If they are those, the hubs and rims are decent. The spokes, suck horribly. I had to replace all of them on the black/carbon set I had. They were called Fusions? i think. I have another set unbuilt I can post pictures of. |

This whole thread is just amazing. I would have guessed Velocity aftermarket wheels, but the depth of knowledge available is incredible. Hey, at least it's good news too; no Gipiemme Grecal Parades

HA! I can show you pictures of a paired CXP-30! I made a couple prototypes back when they first came out in 96. I also did stupid low spoke count 12 and 14 hole ones. The CXP-30 was excellent since they were stiff as all get out and had the reinforcements for the nipples. |
