Tough week around Boston

At least 3 broken collarbones during group rides, and now this sad report:

http://www.boston.com/news/local-new...ambridge-crash

I have been brushed and clipped by landscaper trailer fenders enough to just move right whenever a pickup passes me. This looks like a door-prize turning into a trailer mash.

Yup. Any time I ride by parked vehicles, I slow down a little and really watch not only the doors but also try to look inside the vehicle as I approach to see what's going on inside. Seems like these days you almost can't ride too defensively.
Sad story.

I believe another cyclist was killed in Lincoln earlier this week

So much for Boston and the surrounds being "bike friendly"

It seems like the local news is actually paying attention, this story was on the TVs in the gym today when I came back from riding at lunch to shower.

Sad news. SF lost 2 riders on Wednesday evening alone. One was riding in Golden Gate PARK and was hit by a driver in a stolen car who was speeding around other cars and veered into the opposite lane, hitting her head on. I rode past the exact spot, same direction, about 15 minutes prior so needless to say, that one is still sitting with me. RIP.

note to everyone. if you find a door opening on you, dive into the car. or at least to the inside of the door. the door's edge and/or the lane of traffic you would otherwise collide with are more damaging than getting jammed up in the hinge area or the driver's body (or folding the door open with your mass).

stay safe...

Interesting tip -- makes complete sense thanks! Now to make that more automatic than the natural response to avoid collision... So much of that stuff happens at the brain stem lizard brain level.

They've changed landscape trailer to dump truck as cause of death.

Says the car door knocked her into the truck. Yet, no charges.
